Two eggs

Yesterday I picked up a Sammy egg.  Then a couple of hours later when I went to check on the chickens, Sammy was sitting in the nest box and in about 28 minutes she had again laid an egg.  She laid two eggs in one day!  Wow!  Good Sammy!

In one hour this

created this!

I hope we start getting five eggs a day:  one from Sylvia, one from Valerie, one from Bonita and two from Sammy!

The Little Family

Suzzie was looking sad so I brought him into the house and gave him some spinach.  He sat there, ate a little bit and then sat there.  So I put him outside with Sunset and Sage in the chicken tractor.  He did his little rooster dance to Sunset and annoyed her while Sage freaked out.

I left them in terror.  A couple of minutes later I saw this.

Suzzie showing Sage and Sunset a yummy treat.

They were a little family.
Suzzie hogged most of the camera.  He likes getting his picture taken and posing.

Then someone escaped through a hole in the chicken tractor.

Mom clucked loudly and Sage retreated from the danger.
Then Sage went frolicking in the sunlight.  But Suzzie told Sage he had a treat and Sage hopped over there and ate it.

I  hope when Sage gets older and joins the flock Suzzie will protect her and love her the way he loved Zozo, his favorite hen.

As Mad As A Wet Hen

Sunset had been sitting in her poo every night and had it crusted on her chest so I gave her a bath. She didn't like it. I plopped Sunset and Sage in the Chicken Tractor in the front yard and went back inside. In one hour, I came back to check on them. Sunset was still wet and she was glaring at me. I grabbed a camera and took a picture of her and she squawked at me.

Glaring Sunset

Then she flapped and ran in a big circle round the tractor and then sat down at the far side of it.

running Sunset

I do not understand this odd behavior.  Yes, she screams at me. Yes she pecks me, but this I just don't understand.

An Ordinary Day

It's an ordinary day today so I went out to tag the chickens.  Each chicken has an individual color.

Sammy's color is purple.

Suzzie's is yellow and black.

Bonita's is orange like her.

Sylvia's is yellowish green.

Sunset's color is red.
Sage doesn't have a color because she is too small.

And Valerie's is red and green.

Like I said, today's an ordinary day.  Chickens are eating cold kale.

Bonita is looking at the dust bathing tub that contains diatomaceous earth and sand.

And dogs are barking at Rat City.

But, I have some new things in my garden.
 This is what I have.

Parsley

Lamb's Ear
 Purple Petunia

Also my cucumbers have flowers!

And last, but not least.....

a shade umbrella!
It adds to my garden.
